Hollywood has both the “brand” and the marketing/distribution strength. Successful franchises continue to control the share of the Asian moviegoer’s wallet. The biggest challenge for Asian filmmakers is to break through the dominance. The debate is whether Asian filmmakers should copy Hollywood at their own game or create their own style. The success of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon showed the world that a Chinese product could travel. More recently, Hollywood has been courting China with Chinese elements embedded into its blockbusters.
