This is the first of the interview series with Han Gin Kai, Executive Producer and Founder, Silver Media Group.

What are the new and exciting things happening in the Asian film industry at the moment? What challenges do Asian filmmakers face in terms of competing with Hollywood?

The phenomenal growth of the box office, the fast improving quality of the films made here, and the increasing sophistication of audiences are some of the exciting things happening in the Asian film industry. It will be tough to compete with Hollywood as they are making films with budgets that are impossible to match. They are also pacesetters in filmmaking technologies that constantly put them on the forefront. Their marketing power is unbeatable. But instead of competing with Hollywood, the solution is to collaborate with them in co-productions, which Europe has been doing for decades, and China, which has started to do in recent years.
