‘Life of Pi’ wins Oscar for visual effects

Team headed by Bill Westenhofer from Rhythm & Hues accepts the award amid calls for VFX union outside Dolby Theater.

Life of Pi wins Oscar for Achievement in Visual Effects

Los AngelesLife of Pi won Achievement in Visual Effects at the 85th Academy Awards, with the honours going to Bill Westenhofer, Guillaume Rocheron, Erik-Jan De Boer and Donald R. Elliott. Westenhofer previously won the Oscar for visual effects for The Golden Compass and was nominated for his work on The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. This was a first-time nomination and win for Rocheron, De Boer and Elliott.

The Life of Pi team is headed by visual effects supervisor Westenhofer from Rhythm & Hues, with MPC visual effects supervisor Rocheron, animation director De Boer and special effects technician Elliott.
