Beijing – Company 3 has utilized Blackmagic Design’s DaVinci Resolve for colour grading four different versions of 20th Century Fox’s Prometheus. One of the most anticipated features of the summer, the science fiction thriller was directed by Ridley Scott, the visionary filmmaker behind Alien and Blade Runner, who chose Company 3 to help enhance the stunning visual style for Prometheus, shot by renowned cinematographer Dariusz Wolski, ASC.
Starring Noomi Rapace (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played with Fire, The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets’ Nest), Michael Fassbender (Inglourious Basterds, X-Men: First Class), Guy Pearce (L.A. Confidential, The King’s Speech), Idris Elba (Thor), Logan Marshall-Green, and Charlize Theron (Snow White & the Huntsman), the 3D film Prometheus is set on another planet, has a feeling of lifelessness, and has much of its action occurring in dark environments. Company 3’s colorist Stephen Nakamura, who previously worked with Scott on Robin Hood, helped enhance the feeling of Wolski’s imagery by further desaturating the already minimal color in the sequences, making the environment’s darkness feel somewhat oppressive but not so all encompassing.
