The Hong Kong International Film Festival Society (HKIFFS) announced the nominees in the 13 categories of the third annual Asian Film Awards (AFA) Presentation Ceremony, which will take place at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre on 23 March 2009. Nominees for the third Asian Film Awards: Best film: Forever Enthralled (China), The Good, the Bad, the Weird (South Korea), Ponyo on the Cliff (Japan), The Rainbow Troops (Indonesia), Red Cliff (China), Tokyo Sonata (Japan, The Netherlands, Hong Kong). Best director: Feng Xiaogang for If You Are the One, Kim Jee-woon for The Good, the Bad, the Weird, Hirokazu Koreeda for Still Walking, Brillante Mendoza for Service, Hayao Miyazaki and Frank Marshall for Ponyo on the Cliff, John Woo for Red Cliff. This event will be the opening gala of Entertainment Expo Hong Kong, and will coincide with the two flagship events of the HKIFFS, namely the 33rd Hong Kong International Film Festival (HKIFF), and the 7th Hong Kong – Asia Film Financing Forum (HAF).
