IBC’s highest honour goes to Jeffrey Katzenberg

Amsterdam – The 2008 IBC International Honour for Excellence has gone to Jeffrey Katzenberg, one of the founders of DreamWorks SKG. Receiving the award, Katzenberg said: “I am thrilled to be among the distinguished list of recipients to have received an IBC International Honour for Excellence. At DreamWorks Animation we aim to create and deliver quality and innovative entertainment for family audiences across the globe, and I am very grateful to IBC for acknowledging our efforts in this area.” Peter Owen, chair of the IBC Council, said: “Our International Honour for Excellence, the highest award we bestow, goes to someone who has the vision to seize on the technologies of today and tomorrow and use them to help realise popular storytelling in new and imaginative ways. We are delighted that Jeffrey Katzenberg has accepted this award.” Other accolades handed at IBC 2008 include awards for Stand Design which went to Astra (Best Large Free Design Stand ), Ruwido (Best Smaller Free Design Stand) and Innobits, who received the award for Most Imaginative Use of Shell Scheme Space. The award for most thought provoking paper delivered at the IBC Conference went to Mike Knee of Snell & Wilcox in the UK, for his presentation on ‘Aspect processing: the shape of things to come’, part of the Cutting Edge sessions. Knee’s paper was lauded for being informative, clearly argued and pushing the boundaries of knowledge. A special technical achievement award was given to the team behind the remarkable demonstration of Super Hi-Vision, with ultra-high resolution pictures coming from a live camera in London over a fibre connection and from a server in Torino using two satellite transponders.
