Stargazing wins Avid Asia Pacific Student Grant award

Singapore – Pasquale Heredia, a third year student at the Queensland University of Technology (QUT), Australia, has been named winner of the fifth round of the Avid Asia-Pacific Student Grant. Heredia won for his short film titled Stargazing. As part of the grant, Heredia won a mobile studio consisting of Avid Media Composer on a HP Compaq mobile workstation and a Sony Digital HD Video Camera Recorder HVR-A1. Stargazing is a one-minute experimental clip inspired by Heredia’s passion for nature and animation. The clip was developed for a university project and combines a number of techniques. The foreground was shot in-studio on a Sony camera, while background plates were created in Photoshop and composited in After Effects. The clip was edited on Avid Xpress Pro. The judging panel described the clip as one of the most visually interesting and multi-layered pieces seen in the Avid Asia Pacific Student Grant Contest. The citation commended the creator’s expert grasp of compositing, editing, effects creation and sound design.
