MDA launches Animated Short Film Initiative to fund local productions

Singapore: The Singapore Film Society (SFS) and the Media Development Authority of Singapore (MDA) has launched an Animated Short Film Initiative (ASFI) to encourage local production of animated short films. The initiative is targeted to help Singaporean animators make short films for worldwide festivals and markets. Animation companies and independent animators can submit proposals for short films in the following categories – Category A: films runtime of 3-15 minutes are eligible for funding of up to S$15,000 (US$9,909); and Category B: films runtime of 16-30 minutes are eligible for funding of up to S$40,000 (US$26,422). The initiative is open to individuals and companies with proposals judged based on originality of concept, quality of story, designs, applicants’ track record, ability and commitment to manage and deliver the project. Animation styles accepted include 2D, 3D, Flash and claymation. Criteria for both categories vary and successful applicants upon receiving the funding will have to complete their projects within a year. Applicants can submit their proposals by post, with submission details, selection criteria and further details for the ASFI found at
