Live Streaming’s Giant Leap

Live video streaming has never been more popular than now with the advancement in technology. According to Akamai, the Brazil Rio Olympic games drove 100 times more live streaming than in London and Sochi, at two times the speed and three times the traffic peaks. With this, the opportunities arise for monetising live streaming content, explains Yospace’s specialist in Dynamic Ad Insertion technology, Paul Davies.

There are a number of factors behind the substantial growth of live video streaming, not least the fact that many more live streaming services are available than there were four years ago. This is attributable to the fact that a healthy appetite among viewers for live television online has been addressed – in 2012 it was largely assumed that live was taking the lonely road to extinction due to the emergence of catch-up / on demand services. However, this has not proved to be the case.
